In 2017, one of my goals is to donate $20.17 each month to a different charity or cause that I’m passionate about. I’ll still feature other nonprofits and social enterprises in the Give Back section, but I wanted to share this challenge with you, as well. I hope I can introduce you to some great organizations and maybe even inspire you to join me in this monthly challenge!
Race Forward
We live in a world where our laws maintain equality, but our culture and practices tell a different story. Race Forward strives to continue (and start) conversations about racial justice, understanding that a complex issue such as this requires a complex solution and action plan.
Race Forward focuses on:
- Research – What are the systemic barriers to racial justice and equality? How do racial issues intersect other social issues? Their intersectional approach allows them to more broadly and complexly understand racial injustices and social issues.
- Media – How do conversations about race become more commonplace in the media? Race Forward publishes a daily news site called Colorlines that looks at stories from a critical racial lens.
- Practice – Race Forward supports advocacy work and leadership development within communities of color. They have public speakers, host the Facing Race National Conference and engage in action campaigns.
As referred to earlier, Colorlines is a fantastic online publication that dives deeper into our news with a racial lens. They cover everything from politics to Islamophobia to police violence to representation in Hollywood. I encourage you to give it a read.

If you’re interested in learning more or donating, you can go to their website, Facebook or Twitter.
